Regional recycling network for ODS- and POP-containing wastes presented at session of Project Steering Committee
On May 27, 2021, a session of the Project Steering Committee was held.
The session of a body that ensures overall management of the project on coordinated management of ODS and POP disposal in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Armenia joined representatives of ministries of environment protection of the participating countries, waste recycling companies, and the UNIDO headquarters.
One of the presentations highlighted a regional recycling network of ODS- and POP-containing waste management facilities. A Belorussian center for ODS and POP disposal located at Gomel toxic industrial waste treatment and disposal facility is a part of the system and will be brought into operation in the nearest time.
The participants were offered a presentation of a regional knowledge exchange platform for sharing best practices in ODS and POP management. The Belorussian PCB inventory was recognized as a success in the inventory of PCB-containing equipment and wastes.
The Belorussian party proposed to organize a regional database for ODS- and POP-containing wastes, and develop a framework document for regional cooperation in the recycling of ODS-containing refrigerating equipment and disposal of ODS- and POP-containing wastes.
The UNIDO headquarters appreciated the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus and personally its head Andrey Khudyk and his deputy and national project coordinator Alexander Korbut, for their support to the project and noticeable contribution to issues that arise.
